Located on Water Street at the Well is the popular photo-op of Rebecca. This statue was erected n 1896 by the Women's Christian Temperance Movement. A Greek-style model, she stands on a pillar draped in a sleeveless toga, holding a vessel. Ironically, it was later discovered she is a representation of the Greek goddess Hebe who served nectar and ambrosia to the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus.
A relatively unassuming rock of three feet by two feet, Painted Rock has gained quite a curious reputation. It is just a rock that was first painted as a prank in 1962 by a couple of islanders. What began was an artistic tradition of people painting this rock, now over 400 times. Keep eyes peeled for it on the corner of Mohegan Trail, Lakeside Dirve and Snake Hole Road. What color it will be is anybody's guess.
