This refuge, created in 1973, is found at the northern tip of Block Island, preserving 127 acres of wild landscape. Over 70 species of migratory songbirds make a stopover here making the refuge an important bird habitat. The Endangered American Burying Beetle also makes its home here adn it is one of the largest gull colony in Rhode Island.
This park is made up of a deep glacial depression with several miles of hiking trails. Located just off Cooneymus Road.
The Mohegan Bluffs and SE Lighthouse allow visitors to see the surrounding area from the top of 200-foot bluffs. There are also hiking trails and a lighthouse to explore.
Sandy Point is the situated at the north tip of Block Island and the Block Island National Wildlife Refuge. The North Lighthouse is located here, about a mile from Settler's Rock.
This area forms coastal grasslands which is ideal for bird watching raptors and passerines. Visitors can explore this park by entering on the south side side of Cooneymus Road.
The Fresh Swamp Preserve is situated at the middle of the southern Block Island. Here, there is a pond surrounded by shrubs, fields and knolls comprising the area's natural habitat. A trail that runs throughout begins at the end of Center Road where it changes into Lakeside Drive.
