The Old Harbor district on Block Island is a designated National Historic Site. It is here where the ferry lands from Port Judith and it is a fitting welcome with its gingerbread architecture buildings that were constructed over 120 years ago. This area is also serves as the main tourist part of town with many shops and restaurants. It is also the place to find boat tours and fishing charters with companies situated at the harbor.
While New Shoreham is Block Island's only town, it retains a relatively small population that hovers around 1000. Encompassing the whole island, it includes over 30 miles of walking trails and over 17 miles of coastal beaches. It is the center for restaurants, businesses and accommodations for Block Island.
